Our First Food Collection Event
It Started by Sharing a Story
We shared on Instagram that our food stocks had run out. A simple story — a photo of the empty food sacks from a feeding round, with the caption "We can't find food this week."
What we expected was a few shares. But the response surprised us: dozens of messages, dozens of offers to help. People wanted to send food, bring it in person, even become collection points.
When I shared that story, more than 40 messages came in within 2 hours. People want to help — they just didn't know how.
Event Day
We organized it spontaneously. A café garden, a few tables, a social media announcement. Our expectations were low — maybe 5-10 people will come, we thought.
More than 20 people joined. The donations we collected:
- 45 kg of dry and wet food
- 12 boxes of cat litter
- Blankets and towels
- First-aid supplies
But the most valuable thing was not the supplies we collected — it was the stories people shared. Everyone had a street animal they looked after in their neighborhood. Everyone had a story to tell.
What Comes Next
This experience taught us something important: people want to help, but they need guidance. They do not know where to drop off food, or what to do when they see an injured animal.
We are starting to plan regular events. A collection day every month, an informational post every week. As the community grows, so will the number of animals we can reach.
